As you store more and more personal data on your smartphone, security becomes as important as keeping your own home secure. The new HTC Droid security flaw proves that when you download an open-source app, you're inviting the developers into your home, taking off their shoes, and giving them a foot massage (so to speak.)
"I am quite speechless right now," begins Artem Russakovskii over at Android Police as he posts about a "massive security flaw in HTC Android devices that allows malicious hackers to access phone numbers, GPS, SMS, email addresses and more."
Unless you have an iPhone, where only pre-screened individuals are allowed into your gated community, you're opening yourself up to any number of security threats by downloading insecure apps. Security updates are coming - but that doesn't change the fact that you should always know your developer when downloading a new app to your phone.
