Most IT Budgets just maintain your status quo

In this age of constant change why do most budgets contain very little room for improving efficiency and communications?

Because most IT budgets are maintaining 90% of what they don't need to get the 10% the actually use.

SureTech.com's mission is to allow you to share the basic infrastructure that doesn't provide core value to your business, and allow you to focus your budet on the innovation and efficiency that let's you be the best in the world at what you do, instead needing each of our customers to also be best in the world at managing equipment and networks.

What does my IT Cost?

Complexity and Onsite Maintenance are EXPENSIVE

The vast majority of IT costs for the typical organization are related to emergency repairs and the labor, equipment and primarily, lost productiviyt costs associated with a system not functioning optimially.

Proper maintenance to try to minimize repair costs is the next greates IT expense.

The equipment that most companies associate with IT costs is actually the smallest component of an overal IT cost.

The first place to focus therefore is on the biggest cost - inefficiency or instability in your systems.

Simplify and Outsource

The absolutely biggest cost factor, and source of instability, is simply in maintaining networks and equipment communications.

These days a CPU or most individual computer components are pretty simple. They are designed to do the same thing over and over with extremely low failure rates.

The source of 90% of failure points is in the connection between components or the configuration of components.

90% of these connections and configurations are standard infrastructure that not only has to be set up UNDERNEATH most business services, but they need CONSTANT MAINTENANCE and updates as different components are continually upgraded and as technology evolves.

What your business actually uses, in other words, is the last 10% of the cost which is the applications and data with which your company interacts.

So why would you figure out how to mine coal, store it, burn it, convert it to electricity, store the electricity, transfer the power and ...

Like any Windows XP machine, the SureDesk benefits and sometimes suffers from Memory Leakage. This can cause an XP computer to run slow or be intermittently non-responsive.

A likely fix for these slowdowns is to restart the desktop.

Go to Start Menu -> Shut Down.

Select Restart from the drop down menu.

The SureDesk will shut down and you will have to wait a few moments for the SureDesk to restart before you can launch the Citrix viewer again.

Also if you notice that Windows updates are available to install, installing these updates will help as well.

Computers are not quite like TVs - when you turn them on, you actually intaract with your computer in many ways. This takes some training, both for the computer and for you.

For our part the SureDesk is a balancing act to find the optimal balance between four separate goals: performance, cost efficiency, flexibility and security. Our commitment is to provide solutions that to the greatest extent possible provide the best of each of these goals.

Most of you will have had years of training with your physical PCs, Macs and Laptops. We've worked very hard to make the SureDesk as similar as possible, but it's just a little bit different in some ways and a little bit the same in others.

The better you can understand the SureDesk, the better the experience is likely to work for you.

To reset your password on a windows machine you need to press ctrl-alt-delete simultaneously on a windows keyboard.

On a Mac the command is ctrl-cmd-del if you have an extended keyboard. (del in this case is the delete key in the home/end key group on an extended keyboard)

If you have a compact keyboard or a laptop keyboard you don't have this extended del key (not the main delete/backspace key).

Sending the command on a compact keyboard

The first trick is to select "enhanced keyboard support" from the Keyboard menu in the Citrix ICA Client navigation at the top of your window.

Once this is selected press fn-ctrl-alt-delete and you should get the login manager popup. (in this case alt is the same as the option key and delete is the main delete/backspace key)

From that window just select the "change password" button.

These instructions show you how to set up Entourage 2008 to connect to your SureMail mailbox. With Entourage 2008 linked to SureMail, youll have access to your SureMail e-mail and your organizations Global Address List. In addition, your Entourage Address Book will be synchronized with your Contacts, and your Entourage Calendar will be synchronized with your Exchange Calendar. Also, when you invite other SureMail users in your organization to meetings, you can view their free/busy information.

For full access to Public Folders, log on using Outlook Web Access at https://outlook.suretech.com . -- please note this is only available on Exchange 2003, not on Exchange 2007.

Windows Domain and Workgroup Definition

A Windows Server domain is a logical group of computers running versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system that share a central directory database. This central database (known as Active Directory starting with Windows 2000[1], also referred to as NT Directory Services on Windows NT Server operating systems, or NTDS) contains the user accounts and security information for the resources in that domain. Each person who uses computers within a domain receives his or her own unique account, or user name. This account can then be assigned access to resources within the domain.

In a domain, the directory resides on computers that are configured as "domain controllers." A domain controller is a server that manages all security-related aspects between user and domain interactions, centralizing security and administration. A Windows Server domain is normally more suitable for moderately larger businesses and/or organizations.

Windows Workgroups, by contrast, is the other model for grouping computers running Windows in a networking environment which ships with Windows. Workgroup computers are considered to be 'standalone' - i.e. there is no formal membership or authentication process formed by the workgroup. A workgroup does not have servers and clients, and as such, it represents the Peer-to-Peer (or Client-to-Client) networking paradigm, rather than the centralised architecture constituted by Server-Client. Workgroups are considered difficult to manage beyond a dozen clients, and lack single sign on, scalability, resilience/disaster recovery functionality, and many security features. Windows Workgroups are more suitable for small or home-office networks.

A domain does not refer to a single location or specific type of network configuration. The computers in a domain can share physical proximity on a small LAN or they can be located in different parts of the world. As long as they can ...

This site has two ways of recognizing members, with email/name insecure authentication and stronger email/password authentication.

Any time you make a new post or click on the "manage my subscriptions" from an email, you are logged into this website insecurely, by using your email and full name only.

This easy and insecure way of logging in is available to let users post easily, without setting a password and also to allow a user to easily manage subscriptions from email newsletters without requiring a complicated password setup process.

Email/name combinations for many people are easy to guess, however, such as John Doe and john.doe@xyzcompany.com.

We therefore restrict what can be done with this insecure authentication.

To login securely you will need to relogin using a secret password in addition to your email address. This password can only be discovered by using the main email address we have on file with your user account.

Instructions login securely and to set or reset your password can be found here.

If your Blackberry is activated on a Blackberry Enterprise Server, it has the ability to wirelessly synchronize the contents of your main Outlook folders, including any mail-enabled folders (like your Inbox or Sent Items folders), your Contacts folder and any of its subfolders, and your Calendar, Tasks, and Notes folders. This is a significant improvement over the standard Blackberry Internet Service functionality, which only allows for synchronization of your Inbox and its subfolders.

The process of configuring your device for Enterprise Service is called Enterprise Activation. The activation portion is performed on your device and requires only your email address and a single-use activation password, which we provide you with after youve requested enterprise service with us.

Note: The activation password that we send you via email expires after 48 hours, so if it has been longer than that since youve received it; please contact us for a new one.

Any mail that has obviously been forwarded as a chain letter warning of just about anything, even if the warning is true is almost guaranteed to be some specie of SPAM. Sometimes messages like this refer to partially true threats, but the goal of the originator of the message is to get many people to forward the message which creates at best a an annoying kind of virus effect. Sometimes messages like this contain attachments of links that are harmful payloads themselves.

Basically any time an email says PLEASE FORWARD THIS, it is very likely to be misleading, false or worse.

The only way for an average user to know of a new severe particular threat is to read it in the mainstream media or from your technology team.

In conclusion the message should be ignored, but the general rule that you should never open attachments that you are not very sure about holds true. Very sure means you know the sender and ALSO recognize BOTH the email message and the attachment as a legitimate communication from the sender.

If any of the sender, the message or the attachment dont make sense the instructions below apply. But because of the state of SPAM these days, mass forwarding of email is almost never an effective way of communicating this information or any information unfortunately.
